Ie rock up to the station and (lets say you're going north) ask for a ticket from Cowan to Gosford return. They'll check your travelpass and then sell you a ticket between Cowan and Gosford. Kembla Grange" being the racecourse. They may have written over it as the racecourse is only used on weekends and as a request only stop. They probably wouldn't have been top and tail, so they would have been running as a "normal" coalie as the points are in the direction of trains coming from/going to Sydney.
